A Wuthering Day Out

Abney Garsden McDonald Autumn Day Out to Bradford Musuem and Haworth - 23rd September 2004

A day of culture, John decided, for the team this autumn, so to Bradford Musuem and Haworth, the home of the Bronte sisters, we went.

Never in the history of AGM had so many people turned up at 9am promptly for work. One or two diligent souls decided they had to abstain because of work committments. The rest of us piled onto a Bullocks coach for the trip to Yorkshire. The traditional quiz did not pass without complaint and barracking about how many time Britney Spears has been married, and for the record "TWICE" is the answer. The winners shared their chocolates with the rest thus contributing to the likelihood of motion sickness and green faces.

As the M62 faded away, the architectural beauty of Bradford emerged. The Brand new facade of the Bradford Musuem welcomed AGM through its portals for "nowt" as they say in Yorkshire. We were allowed to wander the four floors full of Cinema, Television, and Entertainment exhibits. From the Kodak gallery to the history of animation we were fascinated for a couple of hours until our visit to the IMAX picture was scheduled. The Garden photo exhibit even showed naturists bending over to weed their plot - and on an empty stomach too.

For about an hour we were gob smacked by the technical wizardry of the IMAX 3D picture show with the largest cinema screen we had every seen. Havind donned the most ridiculous looking plastic glasses (no pictures of anyone wearing a pair I am afraid) we watched a film of the International space station. The arms of the astronaut looked to close enough to touch. The amazing picture quality made us believe that we really were floating in space.

Lunchtime meant a trip to Haworth with its quaint tea rooms and public houses (we are all over 18 I think). Some got drunk whilst others sampled literary history and linen. The cobbled streets were quiet and the weather was sunny yet crisp. David told us that despite the similarity of names the village did not belong to him. So dissapointed we alighted the coach for the return journey via most villaged in Yorkshire home to Cheadle Hulme.
