The firm opened its Abuse department in 1995 when Peter Garsden was instructed by one of the first victims in the huge police investigation into abuse in the North West of England. This case quickly developed into a large Group Action centred around Greystone Heath in Warrington, which in turn became 5 large Group Actions concerning widespread abuse in children's homes all over the North West. The firm has the largest specialist abuse department in the country, which is based at the Cheadle Hulme office and is headed by Peter Garsden. He is one of the founder members of a nationwide group called  A.C.A.L. ( Association of Child Abuse Lawyers). This in turn has raised the profile of the firm amongst the legal profession.

Legal 500 - in September 2001 Abney Garsden McDonald were invited onto the very prestigious membership of the Legal 500 which is a directory of the best 500 Law Firms in the Country. We are listed under Claimant Personal Injury for the North West and are one of a handful of firms recommended in the field.
